Amelia Mugavero is a reporter and anchor for CBS News Texas. Born and raised in Dallas, Amelia is honored to be back home telling the stories of the community that shaped her.
Supporting the American Cancer Society is deeply personal for Amelia. Cancer has touched her family in more ways than one. She has a strong family history of breast cancer, and her father has fought cancer twice. Thanks to early detection, groundbreaking research, and exceptional treatment, he is still here today. Amelia is profoundly grateful for the work of organizations like the American Cancer Society, whose commitment to research and patient support has helped make stories like her father’s possible.
Amelia always knew she wanted to be a journalist. She has never met a stranger and believes everyone has a story worth telling. Growing up watching CBS News Texas inspired her to pursue internships in Dallas, including with CBS Radio in 2015 and a local television station in 2016. That summer, she helped cover the tragic Dallas Ambush, where five Dallas police officers were killed in the line of duty. The experience cemented her desire to serve North Texans through meaningful journalism.
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Amelia is also a world champion baton twirler. She earned the prestigious role of Feature Twirler for the Marching Illini, performing at Fighting Illini football games, Chicago Bears games, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland.
Before returning to North Texas, Amelia anchored and reported in St. Louis, Missouri, where she covered nationally significant stories, including the deadly tornado that destroyed an Amazon warehouse and the historic flooding of 2022. She also reported in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and anchored in Denison, Texas, producing investigative reports on road rage, wrongful convictions, and incarceration rates. She also created the series Those Who Serve, highlighting veterans and community members making a difference in the lives of others.
Amelia was the first runner-up at the Miss Illinois 2016 pageant and remains passionate about community service and storytelling.
When she’s not in the newsroom, Amelia enjoys discovering new restaurants, hiking, leading her CBS Texas Book Club, and spending time with her Russian Blue cat, Travis. She is grateful for the opportunity to support the American Cancer Society and help raise awareness and hope for families facing cancer.

Cody Shelley, a first-generation auctioneer with 17 years of experience, founded Shelley Auction Services 10 years ago. As a contract auctioneer, he has traveled the nation serving clients in various industries including; Automobiles, Purebred Cattle, Quarter Horses, Heavy Equipment, and Non-Profit Organizations. Additionally, he along with his wife Ashely own and operate Platinum Horse Sales a global marketplace for the world’s finest equine athletes. In 2023, they launched Platinum Auction Group LLC, an auction company that focuses on Farm & Ranch, Heavy Equipment, and Business Liquidations.
Cody has received numerous accolades, including the 2019 World Champion Automobile Auctioneer, the 2020 Oklahoma and Texas State Champion Auctioneer, and the 2022 Texas Lone Star Open Bid Calling Champion. He is an active member of the National Auctioneers Association and the Texas Auctioneers Association, serving as the Vice President.
Cody’s dedication to the to the auction industry has yielded a thriving career and enterprises, but he remains focused on laying a strong foundation for the next generation, his two children. When not conducting auctions, Cody enjoys spending time at his home in Burleson, TX with his greatest accomplishments, his wife Ashley and their two children, Jakup (15) and Bexley (9).
